MODEL TRAIN SETS ARE NOT JUST FOR KIDS.

Believe it or not, millions of people are fascinated with what some might call childish things. These amazing “childlike” things have been gaining popularity and are called hobbies to some. The most intriguing of these has to be model train sets. The pure fun factor of setting up a new set and begin to creatively map out landscaping and so much more, is something that kids of all ages, and adults seem to flock towards. There is just something relatively innocent about having a nice model train with working tracks, to calm the nerves.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF TRAIN SETS AND MODEL RAILROADS.

Train sets come in a variety of different sizes, shapes, colors, and styles. There are literally thousands of beginner sets that can be taken advantage of. However, before you dive in on any set, make sure you get the features and fun you want, without breaking the bank. It’s advised to set a budget before investing in any size model. Some models come with beginner sets with a few cars, and the main engine, while others come in pieces and will require a large commitment to collect more pieces. Consider a good size budget so that when you’re ready to purchase your beginner set, you have enough room to play around with different configurations. After you’ve set a budget make sure you measure the space you have to house your new set. You’ll have to set aside a table or an area in your home or office for the tracks and the train. You could always put it away after each use but that could take a lot of time and effort, and after getting many pieces it can get cumbersome. Look for enhanced sets that run on steam, and electricity, and reach faster speeds. If you’re looking for real life features for your models railroad, look for trains with sounds, and little figurines for passengers and conductors. After you’ve settled on the set you’d like, start your collection, and watch it flourish piece by piece.

BEST TRAIN SET BRANDS AND PRICES.

There are many brands, models and prices to take advantage of. It’s important to realize that there are a lot of distinct features to look into. Also, it is a good rule of thumb to remember that these train sets are not toys; therefore, they will cost a lot more than your average toy set. A train set collector or enthusiast will spend a lot of time and money on getting everything in their collection exactly to scale. Consider these brands and models when looking at various sets to purchase, Lionel Polar Express at around $210, Bachmann Pennsylvania Set at around $230, Keystone Die Cast Electric Train Set at around $180, and Atlas O IR Atlantic City at around $228. These are just some of the options you can choose from. Most of them are electric trains made of metal and come with several boxcars, but additions can be made later, and upgrades can cost relatively 1/3 the price of these basic entry models.

TRAIN SET WARRANTY.

Warranty information is always important to look at when purchasing anything moderately expensive, and a great train set is no exception. Due in large part to the fact that these are not “toys” it’s important to remember that you should at least have a topical understanding of the warranty information, just in case something goes awry with your train sets and you’re forced to replace them or call the manufacturer for a replacement. Most companies offer limited time, limited warranties, but there are some higher end models that will give you a lifetime warranty. Some retailers will give you an additional warranty option, and it’s important to weigh the cost of adding that to your bill. It’s important to have at least a limited warranty just in case something happens immediately after purchase.
